Rudheath Community Primary News September 2008
“Season of mist and mellow fruitfulness.” John Keats
Welcome to the beginning of the new school year. Once again the summer holiday has flown by, and although better weather would have been appreciated, we have all returned refreshed and ready for the new term. I hope that you too have been able to take advantage of the holiday season and that the children (and parents!!) are ready for the start of the new term. Everyone looks really smart in their uniforms and are settling well into the routines quickly, and seem keen and eager to “get going”.
Staff News
We welcome 2 new members of staff to our school this term:
- Mrs. Lisa Jarmin will be teaching in our Foundation Stage supported by Miss. Webb
- Miss. Aimee Beech will be teaching Y5.
Information
You will soon be receiving an overview of the term outlining the work which your child will be doing over the coming weeks. You will also receive further information regarding P.E. days, homework etc. which will help you to support your child. You will also be invited to a “Welcome Afternoon” during the week of 15th September – individual class teachers will be sending out details for these.
In return we ask that you keep us informed of any changes which may affect your child, particularly with regard to contact numbers.
Please inform Mrs. Shaw or Mrs. Guyatt of any mobile no. changes etc.
Smooth Start
Thank you for ensuring that the children were well prepared for the start of term. However, for the benefit of new parents it is worth reminding everyone of a few important things to improve things even further i.e.
Everything should be named – in a school of 265 children it is impossible to know “whose is whose” without names.
- An individual named water bottle allows your child access to drinking water throughout the day.
As a school with “Healthy School” status we promote healthy lifestyles in school and do not sell crisps/biscuits/chocolate etc. Please do not send these kind of snacks into school but provide the children with a healthy snack for playtimes – KS1 are of course provided with a daily piece of fruit and already bring fruit to share so do not need to bring anything for playtimes. See information from Mrs. Colclough at the end of this letter.
- School begins at 8.55 a.m. – the school gates are open from 8.45 a.m. and the doors open at 8.50 a.m. – It is also helpful if you can be punctual at the end of the day when collecting your children.
- Please inform the school by telephone on the first day of a child’s absence and then confirm, in writing, the reason for the absence when the child returns to school. Absences will not be authorised, if we do not receive a letter.
- Children should wear flat, black shoes for school – trainers and high heels are not healthy for the feet, if worn all day.
- Earrings, if worn, must be studs and removed for P.E.
- Children should not play on the bark area before school – it is often wet and slippery at this time of day. If you allow younger siblings to play on this area, school will not accept responsibility for any accidents which occur.
- Smoking/dogs/bikes/scooters are not allowed on the playground at anytime.
I apologise if this all seems rather draconian, but these things really do contribute to the smooth and safe running of the school day.
School Meal price Increase

The price of a school meal is now £1.90 and includes many new healthy options. Please see Mrs. Colclough if your child has special dietary needs.
Parking
Please be vigilant when parking your car, either within the school grounds or on local roads. A concerned parent came to see me at the end of last term as there had been yet another “near miss” close to the rear entrance of the school.
Once again, I look forward to working with you and your children over the coming year – and remember, you are always welcome in school.Elaine H. Wright
