Rudheath Community Primary News
Easter 2009
As we come to the end of our Spring term, I have had time to reflect on everything that we have achieved and feel that as a school we have a lot to celebrate.
Easter

Thank you to those of you who joined us at St. Helen’s on Wednesday for our annual Easter Service, it was lovely to see so many of you there and the children performed superbly. Once again, we should all be very proud of the children of Rudheath.
The staff were also delighted with the response to the two Easter competitions, organised by the friends of the School and held here in school yesterday morning. The decorated eggs were wonderful and the Easter bonnets fantastic – they really cheered everyone up. The Friends of the School deserve a big thank you for organising this. Thank you also for supporting the Easter Raffle which we hold every year in association with Vale Royal Lions. We raised £228, which will be shared equally between the school and the Lions.

Although we decided to keep our Red Nose Day fundraising at a fairly low-key level, there was still a very good response. The children enjoyed dressing in red and dying their hair and we covered the enormous red nose (made by Miss Forster) with coins amounting to £325. Thank you again for your generosity.
Readathon

Thank you to those of you who have already sent in the money raised through the Readathon. This is an event organised to raise money for CLIC Sargent and The Roald Dahl Foundation. If you have not returned the money raised, can you please send it into school at the beginning of next term.
Bingo Night

Thank you to everyone who supported our Bingo night on Thursday last week at which we raised £282. Many of the fantastic prizes were donated by local businesses, and a lot of hard work was done by The Friends of the School. Well done to everybody.
The March 100 Club winners were:
1st prize (£10): Andy England
2nd Prize (£5): Vicky England
3rd. prize (£5); Mrs. Shaw
All 3 winners have kindly donated the money to school.
Educational Visits and Visitors
As part of their School Linking Project (linking with Edleston Road Primary School in Crewe) Y3 visited Chester Cathedral, enjoyed a workshop led by the Rhema Theatre Group and shared the work from the project with parents from both schools in assembly.- Our Y2 children spent 3 days on a residential visit at Foxhowl in Delamere. They enjoyed activities which included den-building, orienteering and a campfire. Thank you to Mrs. Jeffery for organizing it and to Miss Forster, Mrs. Ollier, Mr. Bradley, Mr. Poucher and Mrs. Dobson who also accompanied the children.
- Children from the Foundation Stage and some Y1 children went along to Reaseheath College to see the Spring lambs and to learn about life on a farm.
- P.C. Williamson came into school to talk to all of the children about the danger of talking to strangers and what to do if they are approached or see someone acting suspiciously.
- We were delighted that the Rt.Hon. George Osbourne M.P. was able to find the time to come into school to talk to the school council and to congratulate us on our successful lottery bid. The work on the new playground will commence during the Easter holidays and we are planning an official opening ceremony for early next term.
- At the beginning of March Miss Beech’s class worked with a wood carver to produce a carving which will take pride of place in our new playground. However, in the meantime it will be displayed in an art exhibition at Woodford Lodge in Winsford.
- The whole school has worked with the poet David Harmer this term he began the day by performing his poetry to the whole school – and very enjoyable it was too – and then he worked with the children and helped them to write their own poems.
Choir
Last Tuesday we were all very proud of our school choir when they came second in the Northwich Rotary Youth Sings Choir Competition. They sang “Seek Ye First”, “Children of the World” and “Bare Necessities”. The adjudicator described their performance as “fine and pleasing”.
Well done to all the children involved and thank you to Mrs. Clarke and
Miss. Turner for working so hard with the children.
Staff News
Mrs. Phillips begins her maternity leave today, and we wish her and her baby all the very best. Miss. Hobson will be joining the teaching staff after Easter, to teach the Y4 class.
Sport

Year 4 took part in an Athletics Festival at Rudheath High School and our Y5/6 girls took part in a football tournament. Although we did not win, all the children did extremely well, and enjoyed themselves immensely .
Well done to all the children, who have been presented with awards for their positive attitude and behaviour in school.
I wish you all a very Happy Easter
Elaine Wright.
Headteacher.
